Date: June 5, 2019
Time: 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Location: Collin College, Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Boulevard, Frisco, TX 75035
Event Description: The event on June 5 will be "Vouchers and Fair Housing: Unlocking Access to Opportunity." Speakers will include: Terry Hockenborough, Collin County Homeless Coalition; Dr. Myriam Igoufe, Dallas Housing Authority; elected officials from across the region. The Fair Housing Act of 1968 prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, or sex. In 2016, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) required cities to complete an Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) pursuant to the new rule on "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing" (the "AFFH Rule"). A consortium of more than 20 Dallas-Fort Worth cities and housing authorities formed to do just that. Dr. Myriam Igoufe will discuss the insights of their report, and the issues and strategies that we can take as the Dallas/Fort Worth community to affirmatively further the 1968 doctrine. Additionally, Terry Hockenborough will discuss the Collin County Homeless Coalition's 2019 plans for combating homelessness. Both of our speakers will shed light on the status of fair housing, or lack thereof, in the North Texas region.
