2019 CONGRESSIONAL ACTION

Congressional Action

As part of her commitment to increasing affordable homes, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D, CA-13) introduced H.Res. 429, the Housing Bill of Rights, on June 5, the last day of Our Homes, Our Voices National Housing Week of Action. The resolution supports the expansion of renter's rights and expanded federal funding for affordable housing programs. You can read more about the resolution here

In New York, Sharon Sherman, executive director of the Greater Syracuse Tenants Network, shares with NCC news the high cost of housing in the Syracuse area, and what can be done about it.

Advocates in Ohio record an episode for the podcast Doorsteps to highlight the Week of Action. Dr. Cody Price speaks with Bill Faith, Executive Director, and Marcus Roth, Director of Communications & Development, of Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO), about the need for increased investments in affordable homes. 

Topeka JUMP members raised their voices Monday,  June 3 in Topeka, Kansas to advocate for people struggling to find low-income housing.

Homes RI members advocated for their legislative priorities at the Rhode Island State House on Thursday May 30, as part of Our Homes, Our Voices National Housing Week of Action. The day began with a short program of speakers followed by direct outreach to legislators. Victoria Bourret, Housing Advocacy Organizer at NLIHC, spoke about the great support for affordable homes across the US.

The Michigan League for Public Policy released a video about Michigan's affordable housing crisis to kick off the National Housing Week of Action.

 Vermont's largest affordable housing community had a neighborhood-wide celebration to celebrate 30 years of housing affordability and resident ownership. Their story was highlighted in the local news.

The Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance held a #OurHomesOurVoices Press Kick-off Event on May 30. One of the speakers included Brooke from the National Low Income Housing Coalition who flew there to show support for affordable housing for all!
